About this category: Tools

This category covers vacuum pumps (single- and two-stage), charging scales, micron gauges, manifold gauge sets and service hoses, flaring tools and tube benders, torque wrenches, recovery cylinders and machines, condensate pumps, and diagnostic instruments (leak detectors, thermometers, anemometers). These are the tools a technician uses across the whole job — from cutting and flaring tubing, through leak-tight connections and an OFN nitrogen pressure test, to evacuating down to the required micron level and accurately charging refrigerant, plus recovery on decommissioning.

When choosing, match the vacuum pump's capacity (m³/h / CFM) to the line length and system volume, and decide whether you need two-stage for a deeper vacuum. Check A2L compatibility (R32, R454B) — the pump, leak detector and recovery machine should be rated for flammable refrigerants. For manifolds and scales, look at accuracy class and pressure range (HP/LP) suited to high-pressure refrigerants such as R410A. A torque wrench should cover the torque figures for common flare sizes, and a vacuum gauge must read in microns, not in bar.

Frequently asked questions

Typical splits are fine with a 1.5–3 CFM pump (about 2.5–5 m³/h). For longer line runs, multi-splits and VRF systems with larger internal volume, go for 6–8 CFM (10–14 m³/h) to reach and hold a vacuum below 500 microns within a reasonable time. CFM is not the only factor — short, large-bore hoses and a proper micron gauge to confirm tightness matter just as much.

For air-conditioning and heat-pump service and installation the two-stage pump is the standard — it reaches a deeper ultimate vacuum (typically <50 microns) and removes moisture from the system more effectively. A single-stage will do for simple work, but for A2L jobs and systems that must run dry we always recommend two-stage plus an isolation valve and a micron gauge.

Yes — with A2L refrigerants use leak detectors and recovery machines marked as flammable-refrigerant compatible, and a vacuum pump with a spark-free motor or one approved by the maker. Manifolds and hoses must have a pressure range suited to the refrigerant. Always purge with OFN nitrogen before brazing and never evacuate through equipment not intended for A2L.
