Wrenches in this category are used to assemble and service refrigerant lines: tightening flare connections (1/4"–3/4" SAE) to the correct torque, opening and closing service valves on split units, replacing valve cores, and operating valve stems on condensing units and heat pumps. A torque wrench delivers a repeatable tightening torque to the manufacturer's spec, preventing leaks and cracked flares — critical with A2L refrigerants (R32) and high-pressure refrigerants (R410A).
When choosing a wrench, check the size range (SAE inches: 1/4", 3/8", 1/2", 5/8", 3/4" plus metric), the torque range and accuracy (Nm) on torque versions, the drive type (one- or two-way ratchet), and how well it works in the tight spaces around indoor units. Schrader-stem valves need a dedicated stem wrench (usually ratcheting, with 3/16", 5/16", 1/4", 3/8" ends); valve cores need a core tool with under-pressure replacement if you work without recovery.
