Manifold gauges and vacuum gauges (micron gauges) are the measuring tools for charging, evacuating and diagnosing refrigeration, air-conditioning and heat-pump systems. This category is for HVAC/R installers and service techs working on refrigerants from R22 through R32 and R290.
Manifold gauge sets measure low-side (suction) and high-side (discharge) pressure, let you charge and recover refrigerant, and read saturation temperature off refrigerant-specific scales. Vacuum gauges measure evacuation depth in microns (µmHg) — the only reliable way to confirm moisture and air have been pulled from a system before charging. When choosing, check the refrigerant list and pressure ranges — the manifold must cover high-pressure R410A (around 60 bar) plus newer R32 and R290. For flammable A2L/A3 refrigerants choose intrinsically safe or hydrocarbon-rated equipment. Digital manifolds offer ±0.5% accuracy and automatic superheat/subcooling, which speeds diagnostics; analog sets are cheaper and rugged. For evacuation you need a separate vacuum gauge reading down to 0–50 µmHg — a manifold gauge has no resolution in deep vacuum. Also check hose tightness rating, angled valves, and connectors (self-sealing fittings cut refrigerant loss and F-gas emissions).
