A fouled coil (condenser/evaporator) loses thermal efficiency and increases energy consumption. Cleaning agents are matched to the type of soiling: acidic products dissolve mineral deposits, oxides and the "white rust" on aluminium exposed to the weather; alkaline ones deal with grease, dust and organic soiling. Foaming forms cling longer to vertical fins, while concentrates are diluted to suit the specific task.
When choosing a product, check the pH and intended use (indoor unit vs outdoor condenser), aluminium compatibility, and whether it requires rinsing. Use it in accordance with the safety data sheet, wearing personal protective equipment, and do not mix acidic with alkaline products.
